This initiative was started to help people who are vulnerable, disabled, elderly and orphaned living in poverty.
Money is provided to these people who are otherwise unable to provide for themselves.
General Information
The Metro LEAP Implementation Committee selects poor communities per the Metro Poverty map and from
there the Community LEAP Implementation Committee is formed in each of these selected communities. The Community LEAP
Implementation Committee then identify households with persons who are vulnerable, disabled, elderly, orphaned and
living in poverty. After identification, the Department of Social Welfare then registers these households
and puts them on the LEAP Social Grant.
