Child Labour Initiative
This initiative is aimed at stopping child labour of the worst kind.
Child Labour General Information
The Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with the Labour Department is engaged in a
programme that is visiting ten communities where child labour in the cocoa industry is prevalent. The ten communities are:
Abura Dunkwa-Obronkyere
Agona Abirem
Akrofororum
Ampenkro
Asensoho-Shed
Edwinase
Ekutuase
Mfuom
Watreso
Wawase
This has been an ongoing programme since 2009, and is to withdraw children from worst forms of child labour and put them back into school.
The Department hosts World Day Against Child Labour celebrations, in order to bring attention to the issue of child labour in Ghana.
